Edgeworks is the full-service design, research, and production bureau housed in the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts. At Edgeworks, we pioneer "edge of field practice"—cultivating new possibilities past the boundaries of traditional disciplines. We partner with university researchers, community organizations, and global companies to create effective solutions to wicked problems. Edgeworks seeks to establish regenerative relationships between the Center, the university, and our surrounding community by concentrating on innovation at the margins. We are leading from the Edge. 

The Eisentrager-Howard Gallery, located in Richards Hall, is open to the public and hosts changing exhibitions that extend the studio and classroom. The gallery is named for Professor Emeriti of Art James Eisentrager and Dan Howard.   

The mission of Nebraska's Engineering Ambassadors Network is to redefine the conventional ideas surrounding science, technology, engineering, and math. Through engaging presentations and hands-on activities, we challenge K-12 youth (particularly underrepresented groups) to dream of a better world and to embrace roles as agents of change. 

Engineers Without Borders is an international non-profit organization that aims to build a better world through engineering projects that empower communities globally to meet their basic human needs and equip leaders to solve the world’s most pressing challenges. It is an organization that supports community-driven development programs worldwide through the design and implementation of environmentally sustainable, equitable, and economic engineering projects. While advancing the quality of life in these communities, EWB-USA works to develop globally aware and personally responsible engineers and students. Through projects both here in Nebraska and abroad, EWB-NU empowers students to use their engineering skills to help others.   

College of Engineering

Engler exists to embolden people on the courageous pursuit of their purpose through the art and practice of entrepreneurship. The program equips its student with the skills, mindset and know-how to build and launch a successful enterprise that aligns with their passion and purpose. Students receive assistance in exploring entrepreneurship and then in growing their businesses, should they choose entrepreneurship as their path. Students from across UNL as well as entrepreneurs from the community are welcome.   

Guide is an effort for teachers to think about their classroom like an entrepreneur thinks about a market. We seek to empower educators to create greater value, find opportunities, and challenge assumptions within their classrooms. Join us and spend two days rethinking your approach to classrooms, students, and your role as an educator. 

The High School Cohort is a small group of educators who are seeking to teach with an entrepreneurial mindset. These cohorts are designed for providing support, education, and comradery around educators who have bought into the Engler mission. 

Launch! Is a year-long program that takes high school students and teachers through the entrepreneurial process from no idea or plans to the creation of a valuable, sustainable business that solves a real-world problem for real-world customers. 

K-12 teacher resources and outreach kits, insect images, charts, and diagrams, science literacy and outreach materials. 

The Entrepreneurial Communities Activation Process (ECAP) program helps Nebraska communities grow their economy by tapping into their unique culture and past successes. ECAP empowers community members to lead the way in shaping their economic future. Prosperity isn’t instant; it’s a journey, and ECAP helps communities set action-based goals to get where they want to be. 

In this workshop, students explore established businesses and identify the problem, solution, target market, competition, financial projects, and “the ask.” If the idea of building and organizing a business excites you, entrepreneurship might be an area to consider. We love incorporating that “startup” mindset in classrooms to stimulate a new interest in business. 

Improving stewardship of Nebraska's natural resources is critical to providing ecosystem services while maintaining natural ecological integrity and processes. Human dimensions specialists in School of Natural Resources offer guidance to balance use and integrity of natural resources.

Students, under faculty supervision, represent clients in estate planning and estate planning document drafting. They may also participate in a Rural Estate Planning Clinic, an off-site program where students work with senior citizens in out-state Nebraska in drafting their estate planning documents. 

Nebraska Extension provides community education and expertise to Nebraska with 83 county offices serving all 93 counties throughout the state in the areas of livestock, crops, water, food, youth development, the environment, community development, and agriculture profitability. 

Resources and tools from and compiled by Nebraska Extension to help Nebraskans with extreme heat conditions. 

FACT is a collaborative student designbuild studio at UNL that engages design, fabrication, and construction projects with cultural and non-profit clients. FACT’s primary mission is to provide educational opportunities for design students and partners who play a role in this mission. Students are hardworking and creative, but they are not yet professionals. The benefits to the student and the partner organization are mutual.

The Farm to School program connects kids with fresh, local food and healthy living in an engaging way. In the classroom, students learn about agriculture, nutrition, and the journey food takes from farm to table—including, in some cases, hands-on growing experiences. In the cafeteria, they get to taste the difference with meals made from fresh, locally sourced ingredients, some of which they may have grown themselves. These hands-on experiences help children experience the benefits of eating fresh, local produce and make healthy eating a part of their everyday lives.

Food allergens remain among the most challenging food safety concerns to manage. With the implementation of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), it is more critical than ever to have well-documented, effective allergen management programs. This badge from the Food Allergy Research and Resource Program (FARRP) recognizes exposure to critical topic areas, including food allergen regulatory issues, development and implementation of allergen controls, and strategies for allergen control validation and verification.

The Department of Finance at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln regularly hosts research seminars that provide a forum for faculty members, graduate students and invited guest speakers to present and discuss cutting-edge research in all areas in finance.
