4-H Afterschool Programming

Delivered by 4-H staff or trained volunteers, afterschool experiences combine 4-H resources with community-based organizations and offer high-quality care, education, and development experiences to youth.
4-H Big Red Camps

Big Red Camps are residential, career exploration academic camps hosted by the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. Youth get the opportunity to explore campus, meet faculty, and spend time investigating an interest or potential career.
4-H Clubs

A 4-H Club is an organized group of at least five youth from three different families who meet regularly with adult volunteers or 4-H staff for a long-term, progressive series of educational experiences. The purpose of a 4-H club is to provide positive youth development and foster educational opportunities to meet the needs of young people.
4-H Companion Animals

The primary goal of the companion animal extension program is to improve the quality of life of companion animals. Companion animals are diverse group of animals that includes dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, companion birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, and many more.
4-H Horse Program

The Nebraska 4-H horse programs offer life-changing opportunities for youth. Along with learning horsemanship and animal husbandry, 4-H members practice life skills, such as responsibility, self-discipline, personal safety, goal setting, and keeping records.
4-H Poultry

Chick Days is an annual educational event for small and back-yard poultry producers and youth to learn more about the poultry industry. The event is open to both youth (Ages 7-18) and adults (ages 19 and up).
4-H Summer Camps

Nebraska 4-H summer camps provide all youth a place to discover, learn, and grow. Youth do not need to be a 4-H member to attend. We offer residential overnight camps, single day camps, and week long day camps with a variety of activities for all ages.
America Reads and America Counts
Since 2002, America Reads and America Counts work-study program, housed in the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarship, has partnered with the Lincoln Public School District to provide tutoring resources for elementary schools. UNL America Reads and America Counts program annually employes 100 students to engage in the community, thus enabling the program to reach over 1,000 youth per month. Tutors assist elementary school children, kindergarten through 5th grade, in reading and mathematics. The America Reads and America Counts program offers UNL undergraduate students an opportunity to mentor, educate, and invest in children within the community through one-on-one and group tutoring. Data from the Lincoln Vital Signs Report show that in 2020-21, third-grade ELA proficiency among LPS elementary students was 55%, compared to 50% of Nebraska public school students statewide.
Block Party Program

Block Party is a play-based learning experience that helps children develop essential skills like math, science, social skills, and problem-solving through block play. Nebraska Extension also offers Block Party training for childcare providers. This training provides information on the benefits of block play and how to incorporate it into daily activities.
Center for Children, Families, and the Law
College of Arts and Sciences
The center “helps the helpers” by providing an interdisciplinary and collaborative approach to improve systems and outcomes for children and families. Services offered include needs assessment, training and research in child welfare or juvenile justice system, legal and policy analysis, community service planning, program evaluation, data management, resource information, technical assistance, and consultation and capacity building.
Children's Justice Attorney Education
College of Law
Students participating in the Children’s Justice Clinic serve as guardians ad litem in the Lancaster County Juvenile Court under the supervision of the faculty instructor. Foundational training in the Children’s Justice Clinic focuses on courtroom skills, federal and state child welfare laws, the child welfare process, child development, and trauma in young children.

Co-Parenting for Successful Kids

This class is for anyone who is required to complete a parenting class who is in the process of divorce, custody modification, or separation. The course provides concrete steps for parents to use to help their children succeed through the process.
Couple and Family Clinic

The Couple and Family Clinic provides evidence-based treatment from therapists who are currently receiving specialized training and supervision in Marriage and Family Therapy. Available services include couples counseling, family therapy, pre-marital therapy, trauma- informed treatment, individual therapy, and discernment counseling.
Counseling and School Psychology Clinic

The Counseling and School Psychology Clinic (CSPC) is a training clinic housed within the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Our mission is to offer supportive, affirming, and affordable psychological services to members of the local community and surrounding regions and provide professional clinical training for Counseling Psychology and School Psychology graduate students. The CSPC offers an array of psychological services to support the mental health, behavioral health, and emotional health of children, adolescents, and adults. Services are available for community members, as well as UNL students, staff, and faculty. All prospective clients are welcome regardless of age, ethnicity, sex, gender identity and expression, religion, sexual orientation, or physical or mental ability.

Great Plains Art Museum
The Great Plains Art Museum has developed a series of STEAM at-home art activities for kids and families of all ages. Husker Athletics Husker Heros
This program partners with 12 nonprofit organizations that serve as members of the Organizations Networking for Everyone with Special Needs (O.N.E. Coalition). The program is Required for all 1st-year student-athletes as part of the 4-year tiered development program and as an introduction to the culture of service at Nebraska. The Program is designed for individuals with disabilities and their families to interact and play games with Husker Student Athletes. In 2022 the event hosted over 800 participants from all across Nebraska and saw a total of 122 Husker Student athletes attend to host sport related stations and interact with attendees.
International Quilt Museum
Located at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, the museum is a world-renowned institution that showcases the rich and diverse history of quilting. Founded in 1997, it quickly became one of the world’s largest and most comprehensive collections of quilts and related textiles, boasting more than 9,000 quilts and over 2,500 quilt-related objects.
Kit and Dick Schmoker Reading Center
College of Education and Human Sciences
The Kit and Dick Schmoker Reading Center provides reading and writing tutoring to children in the community. Tutoring is provided by UNL graduate and undergraduate students in the College of Education and Human Sciences, under the direction of UNL faculty and certified teachers. Instruction is individualized and based on assessments given by the tutors. It is our goal that each child improves his or her reading and writing skills, gains greater confidence as a reader, and establishes a love for reading.
Livestock Judging Camp

This camp is geared toward youth 7-18 years of age who have an interest in competitive livestock judging. The camp covers content on all of the livestock species including cattle, hogs, sheep, and goats. Youth will learn about the priority traits that we use when evaluating livestock and gain basic knowledge of the livestock industry as it pertains to each species.
Premier Animal Science Event (PASE)

The Nebraska 4-H Premier Animal Science Event (PASE) features a variety of state-level animal science contests. The two-day event is held annually at the Nebraska Animal Science Complex in Lincoln. Youth explore issues related to the animal industry, discover college and career opportunities, and work with other youth from across the state.
Psychological Consultation Center
College of Arts and Sciences
The Psychological Consultation Center (PCC) is part of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Clinical Psychology Training Program (CPTP), which was established in 1948. PCC doctoral students provide psychological services to individuals and families in Lincoln and surrounding communities. At the same time, the PCC is a teaching, training, and research center for the CPTP. Services are provided primarily by doctoral students in the CPTP. All services provided in the PCC are supervised by licensed clinical psychologists who hold faculty appointments in the Department of Psychology or who are contracted with the Department to provide supervision.
Nebraska Athletics Red Carpet Experience
Nebraska Athletics created the Red Carpet Experience in the fall of 2021. The program's premise is that all youth and people with special needs across the state of Nebraska deserve the opportunity to attend a Husker competition despite their socioeconomic status. The program is designed to provide participants with a pregame experience, including the chance to interact with student-athlete volunteers and a free ticket to the game. Over 4,000 tickets have been purchased, donated, and used through the Red Carpet Experience by individuals and their families.
Nebraska College Preparatory Academy
NCPA is an innovative college access program that prepares academically talented, first-generation, income-eligible students in grades 9-12 for college and their future careers. NCPA’s college scholars also receive full financial assistance to pay the cost of college, including tuition, books, room and board, and fees. NCPA serves academically talented students from first-generation, low-income families from four high schools—Omaha North High Magnet School, Omaha South High Magnet School, Grand Island Senior High, and Winnebago Public High School.

The Nebraska Extension Early Childhood team has identified books to support children’s coping and understanding of their feelings after experiencing a major stressor, disaster, loss, and/or grief. Free storybook reading guides accompany the books. The guides provide adults with suggested activities and probing questions to help children personally connect with the experiences of the characters in the books.

Youth for the Quality Care of Animals (YQCA)

Nebraska 4-H requires all youth enrolled in livestock projects to complete annual quality assurance certification through Youth for the Quality Care of Animals (YQCA). YQCA is a national multi-species quality assurance program focused on three core pillars: food safety, animal well-being, and character development.
